One of the South American tapir (Tapirus terrestris) females of the Nyíregyháza Zoo had to undergo surgery due to a leg injury and the operation was followed by continuous tying. A nearly 200 kg wild animal is not easy to co-operate with, but as the wound has healed slowly and weekly anesthesia would have put a burden on the animal's body, the zookeepers and veterinary team have been trained to use a "resting / calm " stress-free method.
