Tarzan's Trail

Tarzan’s Trail invites you on a magical African adventure. The world’s third-largest continent boasts an incredibly diverse and rich fauna. In addition to the wildlife of the tropical rainforests, savannas, deserts, and Mediterranean regions, the island of Madagascar stands apart as a unique category within the continent’s fauna. However, as a result of deforestation and poaching, many species are threatened with extinction. Our zoo participates in conservation programs for more than 20 animal species native to Africa.

Tarzan’s Trail winds through the Nyíregyháza Zoo. As you walk along this unique path, the exciting wildlife of the Dark Continent holds countless surprises. Visitors can see the giraffe family, feed the troop of baboons living on the Big Hill, and encounter the iconic animals of magical Africa: antelopes, zebras, and rhinos. The largest land animals on Earth, the African elephants, also enrich Tarzan’s Trail, as do the pygmy hippos, the lion family, the flamingos, the crocodiles, and the meerkats. The cheetah also lives here, and our visitors can gain a glimpse into the life of a traditional Maasai village.

After the Bamboo Bridge, the Madagascar Trail awaits our guests, so as we walk along it, we can gain insight into the island nation’s wonderful wildlife. Not only through the rare lemurs and vasa parrots in the enclosures, but also through a beautiful photo exhibition.
