Lesser black-backed gull

Its natural habitat is near coastlines, islands, rivers, and lakes, but it is becoming increasingly common inland as well, where it feeds on garbage dumps. It eats almost anything and enjoys rummaging through urban waste. In Hungary, it is a rare vagrant, primarily appearing in winter along our major rivers or on Lake Balaton. When the chicks are hungry, they peck at the red spot on their parents’ beaks until the adult regurgitates food.
